Denver blows out Bloomington, 5-1

The Denver Cutthroats had a four-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Bloomington Blaze.

Luke Fulghum was all over the ice for Denver, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Fulghum scored 9:17 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Denver. Jamie MacQueen picked up the assist.

The Cutthroats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Bloomington power plays. The 32 shots that Denver put on net surpassed the Cutthroats' average of 28.2 shots per game this season.

Denver additionally got points from MacQueen, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Denver also got a goal from Ben Wilson as well. More assists for Denver came via Markus Lauridsen, Brad Smyth, A.J. Gale, and Joel Chouinard, who each chipped in one.

Bloomington was held below its usual level of production. The Blaze average 4.0 goals per game. Bloomington kept Denver's goalie busy throughout the game, and Kent Patterson made 32 saves on 33 shots.

The Blaze were led by David Gilbert, who scored the team's only goal. Gilbert scored 8:33 into the third period to make the score 5-1 Denver. Jared Walker provided the assist.

The Cutthroats totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Bloomington's Gerry Festa stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Blaze ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major.
