Fort Wayne downs Rapid City, 3-1

Mike Vaskivuo racked up one point to lead the Fort Wayne Komets to a 3-1 victory over Rapid City.

The win by Fort Wayne broke a deadlock and gave the Komets a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Fort Wayne excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Komets kept Rapid City's goalie busy throughout the game, and Tim Boron made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Brett Smith also scored for Fort Wayne. More assists for Fort Wayne came via Jean-Michel Rizk, who had two and David Starenky, Frankie DeAngelis, Bryant Molle, and Chris Auger, who contributed one a piece.

Rapid City relied on a core group of players for most of its offense, as Scott Wray, Collin Circelli and Dave Grimson took 11 of the team's 21 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Rapid City were Michael Couch, who had one.

Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Komets totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Rapid City ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major.
