Allen beats Texas 3-2 after comeback scare

The Texas Brahmas tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but Allen held on for a 3-2 victory.

Allen took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Texas storm back on a Gregg Eskedjian goal 9:38 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Allen was paced by Jim McKenzie, who tallied one goal. McKenzie scored 1:07 into the third period to make the score Allen. Brian McMillin assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:51 into the third period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with four game misconducts.

The Allen penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and five majors for 83 minutes in penalty time. Allen had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Allen stifled the Brahmas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. By firing 27 shots on goal, Allen exceeded the 24.1 shots it averages per game this year. Allen's offense was helped by the efforts of its defensemen, who managed to put 11 shots on net during the game.

Allen also got a goal from Mike Berube as well. More assists for Allen came via Bruce Graham, who had two and Tyler Ludwig and Joshua Hepditch, who contributed one a piece.

Texas racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and four majors for 60 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Brahmas had been spending in the box. Texas put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 15.9 it averages per game.

The Brahmas were helped by TJ Fox, who finished with one goal. Fox scored 17:59 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Sy Nutkevitch provided the assist. In addition, Texas received assists from Dan Nicholls, who had one and Brendon Hodge, who had two.

Marco Cousineau rejected 28 shots on goal for Allen. Allen registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Team's Jake Newton and McKenzie were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Mark Guggenberger recorded 24 saves for Texas. The Brahmas registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For Texas, Tyler Barr and Erik Spady were ejected from the contest.
