Quad City beats Rio Grande Valley 3-1 after comeback scare

The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Quad City Mallards would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-1.

Quad City took a 3-0 lead during the third period, only to have Rio Grande Valley storm back on a Aaron Lee goal 15:08 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Mallards were led by Brandon Marino, who grabbed one goal. Marino scored 18:33 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Quad City. Mickey Lang assisted on the tally.

Quad City's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Rio Grande Valley power plays. The Mallards kept the Killer Bees' goalie busy throughout the game, and John Murray made 31 saves on 34 shots.

Quad City additionally got points from Justin Chwedoruk, who also had one goal and one assist. Sean Flanagan also scored for Quad City. In addition, Quad City received assists from Jared Brown and Justin Hofstetter, who contributed one a piece.

Rio Grande Valley excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Other players who recorded assists for Rio Grande Valley were Zac Pearson, who had one.

Quad City's David McKee stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Mallards ended with 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. The Killer Bees ended with nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major.
