GAME RECAP

Bloomington rides Kalemba to victory over Tulsa, 3-1

Grossinger Motors Arena    Fri, Mar 02, 2012

A stellar performance between the pipes by Zane Kalemba helped the Bloomington Blaze defeat the Tulsa Oilers, 3-1.

Bloomington was led by Jon Booras, who racked up one goal. Booras scored on the power play 1:34 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Bloomington. Jerry Pollastrone provided the assist.

The Blaze forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game Bloomington had been spending in the box. By firing 44 shots on goal, the Blaze exceeded the 26.5 shots they average per game this year.

Bloomington also got a goal from Brandon Richardson as well. More assists for Bloomington came via Vladimir Nikiforov, Jason Dale, Omar Pacha, Craig Cescon, and Luke Popko, who contributed one a piece.

The Tulsa penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Oilers had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. Tulsa could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Oilers put an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Tulsa put 31 shots on net during the contest, more than the 25.3 it averages per game.

The Oilers were led by Troy Ofukany, who scored the team's only goal. Ofukany scored on the power play 14:45 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Tulsa had gotten the advantage when Bloomington's Kyle Laughlin was sent off for cross checking. Gary Steffes picked up the assist.

The Blaze's Kalemba stopped 30 shots out of the 31 that he faced. Bloomington registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Ian Keserich made 41 saves for the Oilers on 43 shots. Tulsa registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
