Wichita beats Missouri 3-2 after comeback scare

The Missouri Mavericks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Wichita Thunder would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Wichita made the score 3-1 on a goal by Matt Robinson at 12:18 in the third period, and Missouri got as close as 3-2 when David Simoes scored 13:54 into the third period.

Robinson had a great game for the Thunder, netting two goals.

Wichita got a goal from Matt Summers as well. In addition, Wichita received assists from Francis Trudel and Aaron Davis, who contributed one each and Kevin Seibel and Thomas Beauregard, who each chipped in two.

With 37 shots on target during the contest, the Mavericks exceeded the 26 shots they average per game this year.

Missouri was helped by Andrew Courtney, who grabbed one goal. Courtney scored on the power play 8:22 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Mavericks had gotten the advantage when Wichita's Justin Sawyer was sent off for cross checking. Dave Pszenyczny assisted on the tally. More assists for Missouri came via Patrick Schafer, Kris Hogg, and Sebastien Thinel, who contributed one each.

Adam Russo made 35 saves for the Thunder on 37 shots. Wichita totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-1 on the power play. Charlie Effinger turned away 21 pucks between the pipes for Missouri. The Mavericks totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
