Evansville survives Wichita comeback, wins 4-3

The Wichita Thunder tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Evansville IceMen held on for a 4-3 victory.

Evansville took a 4-2 lead during the third period, only to have Wichita storm back on a Matt Summers goal 19:54 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The IceMen were helped by Todd Robinson, who had one goal and one assist. Robinson scored 19:06 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Evansville. Philippe Plante provided the assist. Evansville also got points from John Ronan, who also registered one goal and one assist and Robinson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Brian Bicek also scored for Evansville. More assists for Evansville came via Matt Gens and Steve Makway, who contributed one each.

The Thunder managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Wichita ended up below its season average of 16 penalty minutes per game. The Thunder's offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22 shots per game they average.

Wichita additionally got points from Summers, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Wichita got a goal from RG Flath as well. In addition, Wichita received assists from Colin Hemingway, Matt Robinson, Jarred Mohr, Thomas Beauregard, and Aaron Davis, who each chipped in one.

Bryan Gillis recorded 27 saves for Evansville. The IceMen incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Wichita's Bryan Hogan stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The Thunder registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
