GAME RECAP

Robinson lifts Wichita over Missouri, 4-1

Silverstein Eye Centers Arena    Sat, Feb 18, 2012

Matt Robinson was all over the ice for the Wichita Thunder, as he tallied two goals in Wichita's 4-1 win over the Missouri Mavericks.

Robinson's tallies came on the power play at 4:57 into the third period to make the score 2-0 Wichita and 15:48 into the third to make the score 3-1 Wichita.

Missouri was stymied by the Thunder netminder Adam Russo, who stopped 37 shots during the victory. The solid play of Russo will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.55.

The Mavericks' power play was ineffective against Wichita's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Thunder's offense was clicking better than usual and put 30 shots on goal during the game, better than the 22 shots per game they average. Wichita could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was RG Flath, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Wichita got a goal from Travis Wight as well. More assists for Wichita came via Kevin Seibel, Chris Chappell, Chris Greene, Jarred Mohr, Aaron Davis, and Matt Summers, who contributed one each.

Missouri was held below its usual level of production. The Mavericks put an average of three pucks into the net per game. Missouri forced the Thunder goalie Russo to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Mavericks were led by Sebastien Thinel, who scored the team's only goal. Thinel scored on the power play 10:07 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Wichita. Missouri had gotten the advantage when Wichita's Mohr was sent off for slashing. Dale Mahovsky provided the assist.

The Thunder registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Charlie Effinger recorded 26 saves for the Mavericks. Missouri incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
