Arizona boosted by Spillane's play in net, beats Missouri 3-1

The Arizona Sundogs relied on the sparkling performance of Mike Spillane in net to grab a 3-1 win against the Missouri Mavericks.

The referees were busy during the game, as 17 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

Arizona was sparked by Nathan ONabigon, who had one goal. ONabigon scored 16:40 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Arizona. Kyle Hood picked up the assist.

The Sundogs found themselves short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays. The leading offender was Tyler Matheson, who totaled five minutes in penalty time with one major. With 41 shots on target during the contest, Arizona exceeded the 28 shots it averages per game this year.

The Missouri penalty box was a busy place as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. The Mavericks surpassed its season average of 18 penalty minutes per game. Missouri stifled the Sundogs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Mavericks' offense operated below they season average. Missouri puts an average of three pucks into the net per game. By firing 29 shots on goal, the Mavericks exceeded the 24 shots they average per game this year.

Arizona also got points from Daymen Rycroft, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Tyler Butler also scored for Arizona. More assists for Arizona came via Samson Mahbod, Luke Erickson, and Kevin Petovello, who contributed one each.

Missouri was led by Sebastien Thinel, who scored the team's only goal. Thinel scored on the power play 14:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Mavericks earned a power play opportunity when Rycroft was put in the box for interference. Patrick Schafer provided the assist.

Missouri excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Mavericks got most of their shots through Ed McGrane, Thinel and Andrew Courtney, who totaled 18 pucks on net between them.

Missouri was led by Thinel, who scored the team's only goal.
