McGrane leads xMissouri over xRio Grande Valley, 5-1

The xMissouri Mavericks were firing on all cylinders against the xRio Grande Valley Killer Bees, and when the final buzzer sounded Mavericks emerged with a 5-1 win.

Ed McGrane had two goals and one assist to lead xMissouri. McGrane scored the first of his two goals at 18:02 into the first period to make the score 2-1 xMissouri. Sebastien Thinel assisted on the tally. McGrane's next tally made the score 4-1 xMissouri with 15:31 left in the third period. Dave Pszenyczny provided the assist.

The Mavericks were led by goalie Charlie Effinger, who finished with 28 saves while allowing one goal. Effinger managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.7 prior to the game.

xMissouri racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Mavericks surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. xMissouri put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow xRio Grande Valley to score on any of its six power plays. The 34 shots that the Mavericks put on net surpassed xMissouri's average of 25.0 shots per game this season.

xMissouri additionally got points from Thinel, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for xMissouri included Brandon Coccimiglio and Dale Mahovsky, who scored one goal each. More assists for xMissouri came via Brad Good, who had one and Kris Hogg, who had two.

The Killer Bees forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up four minors and three majors for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game xRio Grande Valley had been spending in the box. The Killer Bees' offense operated below they season average. xRio Grande Valley puts an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game. The Killer Bees put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 21.4 they average per game.

xRio Grande Valley was led by Aaron Lee, who scored the team's only goal. Lee scored 16 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 xRio Grande Valley. Zac Pearson picked up the assist.

The Mavericks registered one goal on four power play opportunities. BJ OBrien recorded 29 saves for the Killer Bees.
