DAYTONA, Florida. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team scored 5 goals on Friday night to take game one of the series against Embry Riddle Aeronautics University
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1:
1st Period
- The Spartans opened up the scoring in the first with a goal from Senior Alternate Captain Josey Davis with an assist from Senior Jake Thain.
- Tampa’s lead increased with a slapshot goal from the Captain Christian Kukas
- Embry Riddle cut the lead in half just a minute later, but it was short lived with a goal from Spartans’ Senior Jake Thain with assists from Grant Parrish and Connor McMahan.
2nd Period
- Three minutes into the second Tampa’s Billy Cody scored again to make their lead 4-1 in favor of the Spartans
- Tampa tacked on another goal from Sophomore Jake Karant with an assist from Justin Evans with the last points in the period.
3rd Period
- Almost immediately Embry Riddle scores to get some momentum back, making it 5-2.
- With 2 minutes left, Embry buries another one making Tampa’s lead only two.
- Embry Riddle, with the goalie pulled, scored one last goal with 30 seconds to end the game 5-4, Tampa getting the win.
GAME 2: UT vs. ERAU
CLEARWATER, Florida. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team wins an overtime thriller over Embry Riddle Aeronautics University in game 2 of their series.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Final: ERAU 6, Tampa 7
Records: Tampa (10-1-1), ERAU (5-3-0)
Location: Clearwater Ice Arena | Clearwater, FL
HOW IT HAPPENED:
1st Period
- Tampa started off the scoring with a goal 2 minutes from Alternate Captain Stephen Buck with assists from Billy Cody and Gus Aldridge.
- The Eagles tied the game up only five minutes later.
- The Spartans regain the lead with an unassisted goal from Alternate Captain Josey Davis
- Embry Riddle ties the game again to get some momentum back.
- The Eagles kept their momentum rolling with another goal 2 minutes later.
- Another goal was added on to the Eagles’ lead to make the score 4-2 at the end of period 1.
2nd Period
- The Spartans stop the momentum of the Eagles by scoring the next three goals to start off the second period. The goals were scored by Matthew Needleman, Evan Hoffberg, and Josey Davis respectively with the lead going back to Tampa, 5-4.
- The Tampa lead was short lived, as the Eagles score a goal to tie the game at 5.
- Embry Riddle takes the lead yet again as they score to end the period with a 1 goal lead.
3rd Period
- Halfway through the period Senior Evan Hoffberg gets his second of the game for the Spartans, which would be the only scoring of the third period sending this game into overtime.
Overtime
- Halfway through the 3-on-3 overtime period, Sophomore Ryan Andrews buried a goal to win the game for the Spartans in this shootout.
