ATHENS, Georgia. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team scored 3 goals on Thursday night to take their first road game vs. UGA.

 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

 

Final: UGA 1, Tampa 3

Records: Tampa (3-0-0), UGA (0-1-0)

Location: The Classic Center | Athens, GA

 

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1:

 

1st Period

●      Aggressive First Period by both teams with lots of physical play and shots

●      Freshman goalie Shea Grant had some big stops in his first game as a Spartan

 

2nd Period

●      Spartans start off the scoring with a goal from Grant Parrish to make the game 1-0 in Tampa’s favor

●      UGA tied the game up later in the period with a backhand on the rush

●      Junior Frank Catalina cut across the top of the circles and gets one through the traffic to give the lead back to Tampa at 2-1

 

3rd Period

●      Late in the game with the goalie pulled, UGA’s shot gets blocked by Frank Catalina, which allowed Tampa to stay on top 2-1.

●      Shortly after, Spartans’ Sophomore Connor McMahan buried an empty net goal to make the game 3-1 UT.

 

GAME 2: UT vs. Georgia Tech

 

DULUTH, Georgia. - The Tampa Spartans Men’s Hockey Team falls to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in their second game in Georgia.

 

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

 

Final: GT 2, Tampa 1

Records: Tampa (3-1-0), UGA (2-0-0)

Location: Atlanta IceForum | Duluth, GA

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

 

1st Period

●      Connor Berry opens up the scoring in the game with a rebound from Christian Kukas on a 5-on-3 powerplay to give the Spartans the lead 1-0.

 

2nd Period

●      Tampa with a lot of shots this period, but none find the back of the net

●      Joe Bagi makes a big save on a Georgia Tech 2-on-1 to keep the game at 1-0 UT

 

3rd Period

●      Georgia Tech scored a tip-in goal on the powerplay to tie the game at 1.

●      Yellow Jackets add on another off of a redirection in front to give Georgia Tech’s first lead of the game.
