BMBA Coronavirus/COVID-19 UPDATE

Temporary Suspension of BMBA Activities

Brantford Minor Baseball has been continuing to monitor the ongoing Novel Coronavirus pandemic. As always at BMBA, the health and safety of our players, coaches, and their families is always our top priority. We are following the lead of our sister associations as well as other minor sports associations.

To keep our players and their families safe and to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 within our community, BMBA has made the difficult decision to suspend all BMBA activities. This will be effective from today, March 13, 2020 until April 5, 2020. We will then be reviewing the situation on April 5, 2020 to decide the next course of action. We will be having ongoing talks with Baseball Ontario, our sister associations as well as other minor sports organizations.

The following activities are affected by this suspension:

  • All team practices
  • All clinics – Girls Saturday am and Saturday HL Clinics

We understand that many of you will be very disappointed by this news, but we feel that this is the best course of action for our players, coaches and parents at this time. We have completed extensive discussions, research, and review of recommendations from governmental Public Health organizations. Based on the scientific evidence available, the importance of social distancing is abundantly clear. Congregating in groups of any size for BMBA activities has the potential to put our players, coaches, families, and community at risk. We feel that we must do our part to protect each other and curb the spread of this illness.

This decision will be continually reviewed, and we will provide an update on any possible extension on April 5, 2020. In the meantime, we will be working with our partners to arrange for our teams’ continued training as soon as we are able to resume regular operations. Teams who are found to be in non-compliance with this safety decision will be subject to disciplinary action.

Please continue to monitor yourselves for symptoms of COVID-19. If symptoms present themselves, please follow Health Canada's recommended procedures.

In order to keep our entire baseball family as healthy as possible, we also ask that you advise BMBA as a courtesy if any player, coach, or someone close to them, exhibits these symptoms or tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of your last team interaction.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

Yours sincerely,
Randy Meggs, President Brantford Minor Baseball
