Danbury - Danbury split a doubleheader against the Mystic Schooners on Monday evening. In game one of the day, a game that was a continuation of a game originally played in Mystic last week, Danbury pushed across two runs in the top of the fifth inning, grabbing the 2-0 lead sitting just 9 outs away from a win. However, Mystic would tie the game in the bottom of the sixth with some sloppy play by Danbury. The Westerners’ defense would make up for it as Isiah Daubon would throw out a runner at the plate in the same inning, leaving the game tied. The tie would linger into extra innings where Danbury would retake the lead on an RBI fielder’s choice by Nick Lorusso. On the mound, Eli Oliphant would shut the door with two scoreless innings to pick up the win, bringing the Westerners within one game of Mystic for the final playoff spot in the Southern division of the NECBL.

However, Mystic would make up the one game loss with a 9-1 win in game two. Danbury jumped ahead in the bottom of the first inning when Alex Baratta sent a ball over the centerfield fence to make it 1-0. After that, it was all Mystic, as they touched up Christian Allegretti for five runs in the second inning, four of which coming from a grand slam by T.T. Bowens. Mystic would grab four more runs and finish off the split, leaving the Schooners two games ahead of Danbury with three games left on their schedule.

Looking to make up the deficit, they welcome the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks to Rogers Park Tuesday evening at 6:30.
