Newport - Danbury could not get the bats going in a 7-1 loss to the Newport Gulls Friday evening.

In a game with playoff implications on the line, Newport struck first and threw the first punch in the game with four runs in the bottom of the third, three of them coming from a three run home run against Ryan Bryggman. Danbury would get their lone run on an RBI double from Cam Masterman. However, Newport would continue to attack Danbury pitching to put the game away.

The loss brings the Westerners a game under .500 but still remain a game behind Mystic for the final playoff spot in the NECBL Southern Division. They look to get back into the win column when they travel to Massachusetts to take on the Valley Blue Sox.
