NYU Takes Back to Back Losses Against Liberty University
By Madi Perez
Lynchburg, VA – This past weekend the NYU Violets lost to Liberty University 7-4 and 5-0 at the LaHaye Ice Center in Lynchburg, Virginia.
On Friday night, the Violets opened the scoring in the first minute of the game with junior Scott Mulligan finishing off a great pass from sophomore Alex Hopkins. Senior John Kowalewski received the secondary assist on goal. Liberty tied the game a minute later, but sophomore Parker Richards was able to put NYU ahead 2-1 at the end of the first period. Sophomores Alex Peck and Isaac Ceh assisted on the goal.
Liberty scored two goals in the first half the second period to take a 3-2 lead. NYU captain Mason Gallegos tied the game at three on the power play with assists going to juniors Sam Rappaport and Brandon Ritchey. The tie was short-lived as Liberty scored the eventual game-winning goal with 90-seconds left in the second period. The Flames would score three more times in the third period to win 7-3. Junior goaltender Patrick Cavanaugh made 38 saves in the Violet loss.
On Saturday night, Liberty cruised to a 5-0 win with junior goaltender Adam Salisbury making 39 saves in the losing effort for the Violets.
“Liberty is an impressive team that took advantage of their opportunities,” said NYU Head Coach Chris Cosentino. “They did not surprise us with anything, we just did not execute.”
The Violets will host the Rochester Institute of Technology at Chelsea Piers on November 3, 2018, with the hopes of getting back on track with a win at home.
