Matt Scioscia enters his first year with the ThunderBolts in 2014. It is his fourth professional season. He signed with Windy City on May 8, 2014. Scioscia was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 41st round of the 2007 amateur draft, but he elected to attend the University of Notre Dame. He was later selected in the 45th round of the 2011 draft. In four years at Notre Dame, Matt hit .267 in 88 games with two home runs and 34 RBIs. He spent three years in the Angels system, hitting a combined .222 in 127 games and peaking at high A Inland Empire before being traded in early 2014 to the Chicago Cubs for Trevor Gretzky. Scioscia, the son of Angels manager Mike Scioscia, attended Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, California.
