Kyle enters his eighth season of professional baseball and first in the Atlantic League. He last played affiliated baseball in 2012 when he made eight starts for the Single-A Washington Nationals affiliate, which plays in Potomac, Virginia. The hurler recorded 40 strikeouts and allowed just 12 walks in 42.1 innings pitched.

The 26-year-old began his professional career in 2005 with the rookie level Marlins of the Gulf Coast League after being drafted by the Florida Marlins in the fifth round of the 2005 MLB Amateur Draft. In his second professional season, Winters went 6-6 with a minuscule 2.45 ERA in 15 starts and 88.1 innings for the Single-A Jamestown Jammers of the New York Penn League.

He pitched in both 2007 and 2011 with the Single-A Greensboro Grasshoppers going a combined 16-7. In 2011, Winters was the winning pitcher in the deciding game of South Atlantic League Championship series. In 106 minor league games (104 starts), the right-hander has a 31-28 record with a 3.81 ERA, 381 strikeouts and only allowing 153 walks in 557 innings of work.
