Ridge, 23, comes to Gateway after finishing up a record-breaking collegiate career at Division I UNC-Wilmington in 2013. The Asheboro, N.C. native finished his UNCW career as the all-time leader in at-bats and hits, while finishing tied for first in RBI and fourth in games played.
“Hunter will come here and compete for a starting job at first base,” Grizzlies eighth-year manager Phil Warren said. “We’re excited to see how he adjusts to the pro game.”
In his career at UNCW, Ridge batted .329 with 20 home runs and 182 RBI in 218 games. The 6-1 210-pound left-handed batter hit .340 or better in each of his first three seasons.
