Gerber was one of Creighton’s most potent offensive threats in his second season with the Blue Jays. Over 57 games he hit .246 and drove in 36 RBIs, which was tied for second on the team. In 2011 he burst onto the college baseball scene, being named a Collegiate Baseball Freshmen All-American. That year he was a presence in the outfield as well, not committing an error in 112 chances. In high school Gerber was named All-State his senior year and was rated the fourth best outfielder in the state of Illinois by Prep Baseball Report in 2010. At the conclusion of his high school career the New York Yankees drafted him in the 40th round of the MLB Amateur Draft.
