Kyle Bumpas has picked up right where he left off his freshman season at St. Mary’s University in Texas. Through 10 appearances on the mound this spring, Bumpas carries a 2-0 record with a sparkling 1.88 ERA. In 14.1 innings out of the bullpen, he has struck out 9 batters and has only allowed 3 earned runs. Last spring, Bumpas quickly became one of the top Rattler pitchers by posting a 3.11 ERA and subsequently was named to the All-Heartland Conference Second team. In 17 appearances, he won 7 games and struck out 30 batters in 37.2 innings. In 2011, the St. Mary’s baseball team won the Heartland Conference Championship, were ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation, and won 82 percent of their games, the best winning percentage in school history. Bumpas is yet another incoming Rafter that will bring previous summer league experience with him to Wisconsin Rapids this summer. Last summer, the left-hander appeared in 11 games (4 starts) for the Coppell Copperheads of the Texas Collegiate League. In 41.2 innings, Bumpas struck out 43 batters and posted a 3.46 ERA, helping the Copperheads claim the Texas Collegiate League Championship with a 21-13 record overall. Bumpas is a native of El Paso, Texas.
