An awesome effort by Jessie Smith led the Maui Na Koa Ikaika (18-18) to a 7-0 win over the Sonoma County Grapes (12-24) on Sunday at Iron Maehara Stadium.
The Maui Na Koa Ikaika's Smith kept the Sonoma County Grapes off the scoreboard for all nine innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no runs on three hits while striking out four.
The Maui Na Koa Ikaika stamped out any hope for the Sonoma County Grapes with five runs in the eighth.
Mark Okano pushed the Maui Na Koa Ikaika ahead, in the sixth inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. With the game scoreless in the sixth inning Okano came to the plate and homered, bringing home Gered Mochizuki.
Okano racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Maui Na Koa Ikaika. He homered in the sixth inning.
Dustin Crenshaw ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He allowed seven runs in 7 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out five.
