An ace performance by Alexei Perez led the McAllen Thunder (12-27) to a 7-1 win over the Rio Grande Valley Whitewings (20-18) on Sunday at Harlingen Field.
Perez picked up the win for the McAllen Thunder. Perez pitched nine innings and allowed no earned runs, four hits and three walks while striking out four.
The McAllen Thunder left no doubt in the outcome with six runs in the ninth.
Nathan Tomaszewski helped the McAllen Thunder pull ahead for the duration in the ninth inning. Brian Nichols singled to start the ninth. He then went from first to third on an error. Finally, Tomaszewski came to the plate with the score tied at one in the ninth inning, and reached on an error, plating Nichols and Miguel Alfonzo.
Mike Demperio racked up five RBIs on two hits for the McAllen Thunder. He singled in the eighth inning and homered in the ninth inning.
Julio Santana (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He allowed six runs in two-thirds of an inning, walked one and struck out two.
