William Mathis hopes every outing could go as well as Wednesday, as Mathis threw 10 scoreless innings to carry the Acadiana Cane Cutters (21-21) to a 1-0 victory over the East Texas Pump Jacks (31-14) at Fabacher Field in 11 innings.
Braxton Lee pushed the Acadiana Cane Cutters ahead, in the eleventh inning, and the lead lasted until the final out. Andrew Brown was hit by a pitch to start the eleventh. He then went from first to second on a groundout by Alex Marse. Finally, Lee came to the plate with the game scoreless in the eleventh inning and, scoring Brown.
Lee was hot from the plate for the Acadiana Cane Cutters. Lee went 3-4. He doubled in the fifth inning and singled in the eighth and tenth innings.
Ben Suit improved to 3-2 on the year by picking up the win for the Acadiana Cane Cutters. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered no hits.
Gerardo Esquivel (2-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out three, and allowed one run.
