Three first-inning runs helped the Mankato MoonDogs (29-7) to a 5-4 win over the Thunder Bay Border Cats (16-20) at Franklin Rogers Park on Thursday.
The Mankato MoonDogs held off the Thunder Bay Border Cats, as the Thunder Bay Border Cats were unable to overcome a four-run third inning deficit.
The Thunder Bay Border Cats scored on an RBI double by Patrick Gallagher in the fourth inning, an RBI triple by Omar Cotto in the seventh inning, a solo home run by Scott Donley in the eighth inning, and a solo home run by Justin Higley in the ninth inning. Despite their efforts, the Thunder Bay Border Cats couldn't get over the hump.
Chad Christensen racked up three RBIs on two hits for the Mankato MoonDogs. He tripled in the first inning and singled in the fifth inning.
Davis Henderson recorded his second win of the year for the Mankato MoonDogs. He allowed one run over five innings. He struck out three, walked one and surrendered six hits.
Dan Ludwig was charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just seven innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed five runs.
