A walk-off single from Jimmy Pickens brought home the winning run for the Alexandria Beetles (10-18) in a 4-3 victory over the Thunder Bay Border Cats (12-16) in 10 innings at Knute Nelson Memorial Park on Wednesday.
Pickens put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Alexandria Beetles. He doubled in the second and eighth innings and singled in the tenth inning.
Jon Reed pitched eight innings and allowed one earned run, four hits and one walk while striking out six.
Alex Guilford improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Alexandria Beetles. He struck out one, walked none and surrendered no hits.
Mitch McQueen (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.
