Chris McMurray had two extra-base hits for the Grand Prairie. He doubled in the second inning and homered in the fourth inning.
The Newark couldn't get anything going as long as Derrick Miramontes was pitching. Miramontes held the Newark hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one.
Matt Fitton was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out six, and allowed five runs.
The Grand Prairie were sparked by David Thomas and McMurray, who teamed up for six hits and two RBIs.
