Early lead not enough for the Newark, drop 6-4 decision to the Grand Prairie

Story by Narrative Science.

The Newark (10-17) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 6-4 to the Grand Prairie on Thursday.

While the Newark led until the fifth inning, the Grand Prairie worked their way back and took the lead.

Chris McMurray had two extra-base hits for the Grand Prairie. He doubled in the second inning and homered in the fourth inning.

The Newark couldn't get anything going as long as Derrick Miramontes was pitching. Miramontes held the Newark hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one.

Matt Fitton was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings, walked three, struck out six, and allowed five runs.

The Grand Prairie were sparked by David Thomas and McMurray, who teamed up for six hits and two RBIs.
