Saturday was a great day for Danielle Lawrie, as Lawrie threw a shutout to carry the USSSA Pride (30-12) to a 5-0 victory over the Akron Racers (14-29) at Firestone Stadium.
The USSSA Pride's Lawrie kept the Akron Racers off the scoreboard for all seven innings she was on the hill. She pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on two hits while ringing up seven.
Jessica Mendoza put herself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the USSSA Pride. She tripled in the fourth inning.
Kristina Thorson ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with her seventh loss of the year. She lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
The USSSA Pride were sparked by Kristyn Sandberg and Ashley Charters, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs.
