The Hornell (18-7) trailed by five in the eighth, but the Hornell recovered thanks to a key home run in the eighth inning from Will Benenson to pull out an 11-8 win over the Niagara (10-11) at Maple City Park on Monday.
With the Hornell trailing by two, Benenson came to the plate and hit a grand slam, plating Kevin Johnson, Roeder and Luke Feisal.
Benenson rocked the Niagara with two home runs. Benenson went 2-5 in the game with five RBIs and two runs scored. Benenson homered in the fifth and eighth innings.
Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 19 total runs and 24 hits during the game. There were eight pitchers used in the game as the two managers searched for any way to finish it off.
Erik Eck improved to 3-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Hornell. Eck struck out one, walked none and gave up one hit.
David Kaplan ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed six runs in one-third of an inning, walked one and struck out one.
