The Medicine Hat Mavericks drop the Yorkton Cardinals 9-5 behind Frey's early single

Four first-inning runs helped the Medicine Hat Mavericks (28-13) to a 9-5 win over the Yorkton Cardinals (12-29) at Jubilee Park on Sunday.

Grant Silva helped the Medicine Hat Mavericks pull ahead for the duration in the sixth inning. Dillon Usiak singled to start the sixth. He then went from first to third on an error. Finally, Silva came to the plate with the score tied at four in the sixth inning, and singled, bringing home Usiak.

Silva had two extra-base hits for the Medicine Hat Mavericks. He tripled in the first inning, doubled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth and sixth innings.

Ryan Castadio put together a nice outing. Castadio gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his two innings of work.

Even though Billy Martin allowed five runs over six innings he still recorded the victory, his seventh of the season. He struck out six, walked one and surrendered 11 hits.

Gabe Cook (0-2) took the loss for the Yorkton Cardinals. He allowed seven runs in six innings, walked one and struck out three.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks were sparked by Ben Schubert and CJ DeDeaux, who teamed up for nine hits and five RBIs.
