Chris Van Keulen brought home the winning run to give the Weyburn Beavers (16-18) the lead in the eighth inning, as the Weyburn Beavers hung on to beat the Okotoks Dawgs (22-14) 3-1 on Thursday.
Derek Wallace to start the eighth. He then went from second to third on a single by Jon Neuberger. Finally, Van Keulen came to the plate with the score tied at one, and reached on an error, scoring Wallace.Luke Hawkins picked up the win for the Weyburn Beavers. Hawkins allowed one earned run, six hits and four walks while striking out three over eight innings of work.
A bright spot for the Okotoks Dawgs in the defeat was Danny Britton-Foster, who allowed only zero runs while striking out six.
Paul Geuy ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked none, struck out one, and allowed one run.
