The Danbury Westerners survive the Keene Swamp Bats rally, escape with 6-5 victory

The Keene Swamp Bats (9-4) were never able to get over the hump and overcome their troubles against the Danbury Westerners (7-8) on Tuesday, as the Keene Swamp Bats fell 6-5 at Alumni Field,Keene, NH after falling behind by six runs in the sixth inning.

The Keene Swamp Bats scored on a solo home run by Jared Walsh in the sixth inning, a solo home run by JP Sportman and a solo home run by Fran Whitten in the seventh inning, and a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Sportman in the eighth inning. Despite their efforts, the Keene Swamp Bats couldn't finish the comeback.

Mike Orefice racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Danbury Westerners. He homered in the third inning and singled in the first and seventh innings.

Walsh had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits.

Even though Brett Houseal allowed five runs over seven innings he still recorded the victory, his third of the season. Houseal struck out one, walked two and gave up five hits.

Kevin McAvoy was charged with his first loss of the year. He allowed six runs in six innings, walked one and struck out five.
