The Slippery Rock Sliders (1-3) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 2-1 to the West Virginia Miners (4-1) on Wednesday.

The West Virginia Miners took the lead in the seventh inning.

Jared Messer struck out six hitters en route to the the West Virginia Miners win. Messer allowed one earned run on four hits and no walks over seven innings.

Luis Flores ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just 6 2/3 innings, walked two, struck out six, and allowed two runs.
