Hurwitz's big day not enough as the Springfield Sliders fall to the Hannibal Cavemen, 15-8

Michael Hurwitz clubbed two home runs, but it wasn't enough to carry the Springfield Sliders (1-4) to a win on Saturday, as the Springfield Sliders fell to the Hannibal Cavemen (2-2) 15-8 at Robin Roberts Field.

Each team blasted the other's pitching, and there were 23 total runs and 26 hits during the game. Relief pitchers got their fill of innings during the game, with the opposing managers using eight pitchers in total.

The Hannibal Cavemen turned the win into a rout with eight runs in the eighth.

Jake Mangler helped the Hannibal Cavemen take the lead for good in the seventh inning. After Jonathan Golden singled, Mangler came to the plate with the score tied at three in the seventh inning, and doubled, scoring Golden and Ryan Light.

Mangler racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Hannibal Cavemen. He doubled in the seventh inning and singled in the eighth inning.

Ryan Powers improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Hannibal Cavemen. Powers struck out one, walked none and gave up two hits.

Cody Repenning ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just six innings, walked two, struck out two, and allowed four runs.

The Hannibal Cavemen's Zach Nichols, Jake Wolf, Mangler and Ian Sikes combined for 10 hits and eight RBIs.
