The West Virginia Miners get key pinch-hit in 6-3 victory over the Slippery Rock Sliders

Russell Luxton was cold coming off the bench, but Luxton warmed up quickly as Luxton stroked a key pinch-hit single in the eight to lead the West Virginia Miners (34-17) to a 6-3 win over the Slippery Rock Sliders (20-34) on Tuesday at Jack Critchfield Park.

With the West Virginia Miners trailing by one, Luxton came to the plate and singled, scoring Luke Meeteer.

The game was back-and-forth heading into the eighth, with five lead changes.

Clayton Prestridge was hot from the plate for the West Virginia Miners. Prestridge went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the sixth inning.

Luxton pitched lights out for the West Virginia Miners. Luxton held the Slippery Rock Sliders hitless over 1 1/3 innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two.

Kolin Stanley improved to 3-1 on the year by picking up the win for the West Virginia Miners. He struck out one, walked two and surrendered one hit.

Max Deering ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fourth loss of the year. He lasted just eight innings, walked one, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
