An impressive effort by Sam Lewis hoisted the West Virginia Miners (31-17) to a 9-1 win over the Lorain County Ironmen (13-37) on Thursday at The Pipe Yard.
The West Virginia Miners blew out the Lorain County Ironmen thanks to 15 hits, including zero extra base hits. The West Virginia Miners scored four runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Luke Meeteer, an RBI single by Bradley Strong, an RBI single by Clayton Prestridge, and an RBI single by Alex De La Rosa.
Prestridge got a hit in each of his three at bats.
Lewis got the win, running his season record to 6-1. He allowed one run over nine innings. He struck out seven, walked four and surrendered no hits.
Eric Knight (2-7) took the loss for the Lorain County Ironmen. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed four runs.
The West Virginia Miners were sparked by Prestridge and Strong, who teamed up for five hits and four RBIs.
