The Springfield Sliders (11-19) beat the Hannibal Cavemen (16-14) 11-6 on Sunday at Clemens Field behind Mike Fitzgerald Jr., who went 2-5 and hit a home run.
He singled in the third inning and homered in the seventh inning.Tyler Filliben put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Hannibal Cavemen. He tripled in the second inning, singled in the fourth inning, and homered in the ninth inning.
Christian Trent pitched lights out for the Hannibal Cavemen. Trent held the Springfield Sliders hitless over one inning, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four.
Ryan Aper improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Springfield Sliders. He allowed three runs over five innings. Aper struck out none, walked six and gave up four hits.
Adam Brush ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his third loss of the year. He allowed six runs in five innings, walked two and struck out two.
