The Springfield Sliders (2-7) jumped out to an early lead, but were unable to hold on and lost 5-2 to the Hannibal Cavemen (4-5) on Thursday.
While the Springfield Sliders led until the sixth inning, the Hannibal Cavemen worked their way back and took the lead on an RBI double by Zach Nichols.
Nichols had two extra-base hits for the Hannibal Cavemen. He tripled in the fourth inning and doubled in the sixth inning.
The Springfield Sliders had no answer for Ryan Powers, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. Powers gave up just two hits, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out two during his three innings of work.
Despite the loss, the Springfield Sliders' Brandon Shaw dominated the Hannibal Cavemen's batters, giving up three runs and striking out six.
Dylan Terrell recorded his first win of the year for the Hannibal Cavemen. He allowed two runs over six innings. He struck out five, walked one and surrendered six hits.
Shaw couldn't get it done on the bump for the Springfield Sliders, taking a loss.
