The Windy City ThunderBolts survive the Joliet Slammers rally, escape with 5-4 victory

The Joliet Slammers (16-19) were never able to get over the hump and get over their troubles against the Windy City ThunderBolts (20-13) on Sunday, as the Joliet Slammers fell 5-4 at Standard Bank Stadium after falling behind by five runs in the fourth inning.

The Joliet Slammers scored on a groundout by Trey Manz, a groundout by Brad Netzel, and a single by Jimmy Waters in the fifth inning, and in the seventh inning, and an RBI single by Josh Lyon in the eighth inning. Still, the Joliet Slammers couldn't draw even.

Chad Cregar racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Windy City ThunderBolts. He singled in the third inning.

Abel Nieves did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Joliet Slammers, reaching base three times. He singled in the second inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

Blayne Weller recorded his first win of the year for the Windy City ThunderBolts. He allowed three runs over six innings. Weller struck out three, walked five and gave up three hits.

Tommy Mendoza was charged with his third loss of the year. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out six, and allowed five runs.
