A magnificent effort by Mike Recchia lifted the Windy City ThunderBolts (37-27) to a 3-0 win over the Joliet Slammers (27-38) on Sunday at Silver Cross Field.
The Windy City ThunderBolts' Recchia kept the Joliet Slammers off the scoreboard for all nine innings he was on the hill. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on five hits while ringing up eight.
Jareck West helped the Windy City ThunderBolts take the lead for good in the seventh inning. Zach Aakhus singled to start the seventh. He then went from first to third on a single by Brandon Decker. Finally, West came to the plate with the game scoreless in the seventh inning and Aakhus stole home, bringing home Aakhus.
Mike Torres had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He tripled in the third inning and doubled in the eighth inning.
Steven Maxwell ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his seventh loss of the year. He lasted just seven innings, walked none, struck out four, and allowed two runs.
