Caleb Whalen drove in three runs, helping the Corvallis Knights (22-17) to a 5-3 victory over the Bend Elks (19-17) on Thursday at Goss Stadium at Coleman Field.
He singled in the third inning and tripled in the fifth inning.The Corvallis Knights relied on Max Beatty to eat up innings en route to the win. Beatty pitched 7 2/3 innings and allowed three earned runs, four hits and two walks while striking out four.
Zane Yanzick had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He homered in the second inning and doubled in the fifth inning.
The Corvallis Knights' lineup had no answer for Trevor Hildenberger. Hildenberger held the Corvallis Knights hitless over three innings, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.
Matt Fielding was charged with his first loss of the year. He lasted just zero innings, walked one, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
