Payton Squier was cold coming off the bench, but Squier warmed up quickly as Squier stroked a key pinch-hit single in the eight to lead the Orleans Firebirds (5-4) to an 11-7 win over the Wareham Gatemen (6-3) on Wednesday at Eldredge Park.
With the Orleans Firebirds trailing by three, Squier came to the plate and singled, bringing home Christopher Triano and Riley Adams.
Riley Mahan racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Orleans Firebirds. He doubled in the first inning, singled in the third inning, and tripled in the eighth inning.
The Wareham Gatemen couldn't get anything going so long as (Thomas) Will Stokes was on the hill. Will Stokes held the Wareham Gatemen hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.
Gavin Sheets racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Wareham Gatemen. He homered in the third inning and singled in the ninth inning.
Jake Matthys (0-1) took the loss for the Wareham Gatemen. He lasted just 2 2/3 innings, walked none, struck out two, and allowed five runs.
