The Springfield Sliders (2-2) beat the Quincy Gems (4-1) 9-1 on Friday thanks to a three-run eighth inning.

The Springfield Sliders scored in the eighth on a hit by pitch, an RBI double by Drew Quinones, and a sacrifice fly by Jason Galeano.

Trey Hannam did his best to jumpstart the offense for the Springfield Sliders, reaching base three times. He scored two runs and had one RBI. He doubled in the fourth inning and singled in the eighth inning.

Ben Hecht's nine strikeouts were enough to push the Springfield Sliders past the Quincy Gems. Hecht allowed one earned run on six hits and one walk over five innings.

Jake Walters had a hot bat for the Quincy Gems. Walters went 1-4, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the sixth inning.

Alex Ruxlow (0-1) took the loss for the Quincy Gems. He lasted just 4 2/3 innings, walked five, struck out two, and allowed three runs.
