The Florence Freedom (25-33) beat the Joliet Slammers (30-27) 7-6 on Friday at UC Health Stadium behind Travis Weaver, who went 2-4 and hit a home run.

Joe Staley led the Joliet Slammers' offensive threat, as he got on base three times in the game. He scored one run and had one RBI. He homered in the fourth inning.

The Florence Freedom couldn't get anything going as long as Chris Rice was pitching. The Florence Freedom managed just one hit off of Rice, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out one during his 3 1/3 innings of work.

Jeremy Gooding got his fourth win for the Florence Freedom despite allowing five runs over six innings. Gooding struck out eight, walked three and gave up six hits.

Spencer Medick ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He allowed seven runs in 2 2/3 innings, walked two and struck out one.
