Rodriguez's sacrifice fly gives the Joliet Slammers walk-off win over the Florence Freedom, 5-4

A walk-off sacrifice fly from Melvin Rodriguez brought home the winning run for the Joliet Slammers (30-23) in a 5-4 victory over the Florence Freedom (21-32) in 10 innings at Silver Cross Field on Saturday.

Rodriguez paced the Joliet Slammers at the plate. Rodriguez went 2-4, drove in one and scored two runs. He singled in the seventh inning and tripled in the ninth inning.

The Joliet Slammers were led by Marc Flores's hitting. Flores went 3-5, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the first inning and singled in the sixth and seventh innings.

The Florence Freedom couldn't get anything going so long as Sean Townsley was on the hill. The Florence Freedom managed just two hits off of Townsley, who allowed three earned runs, walked two and struck out seven during his six innings of work.

Mitchell Osnowitz improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Joliet Slammers. He allowed one run over two innings. Osnowitz struck out one, walked none and gave up three hits.

Zach Wendorf was charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed one run.
