AJ Graffanino was cold coming off the bench, but Graffanino warmed up quickly as Graffanino stroked a key pinch-hit single in the 10 to lead the Brewster Whitecaps (13-16) to a 5-2 win over the Wareham Gatemen (13-14) on Saturday at Spillane Field.
With the score tied at two, Graffanino came to the plate and singled.
Konnor Pilkington baffled the Wareham Gatemen, striking out seven batters. Pilkington allowed one earned run, three hits and one walk over seven innings.
Hanson Butler improved to 1-1 on the year by picking up the win for the Brewster Whitecaps. Butler struck out three, walked two and gave up no hits.
Ryan Selmer ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked none, struck out none, and allowed no runs.
