The Yorkton Cardinals (24-15) beat the Edmonton Prospects (18-21) 1-0 in five innings on Friday at Telus Field behind Chance Wheatly, who went 2-2.

He doubled in the third inning and singled in the fifth inning.

Jamie Whitehead held the Edmonton Prospects scoreless during his five innings of work. He pitched a shutout, allowing no opposing players to cross the plate on five hits while ringing up one.

A bright spot for the Edmonton Prospects in the defeat was Noah Gapp, who allowed only one run while striking out six.

Gapp ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his fifth loss of the year.
