The Weyburn Beavers (15-17) beat the Fort McMurray Giants (11-21) 5-4 on Thursday at Tom Laing Park behind Reed Hjelle, who went 1-2.

The Weyburn Beavers' lineup had no answer for Nikolas Cardinal. The Weyburn Beavers managed just two hits off of Cardinal, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out four during his 2 2/3 innings of work.

Eric Evans improved to 1-0 on the year by picking up the win for the Weyburn Beavers. He struck out two, walked none and surrendered no hits.

Cooper Krug couldn't get it done on the mound for the Fort McMurray Giants, taking a loss. He lasted just two-thirds of an inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed two runs.
