Alex Alders drove in three runs, sparking the Medicine Hat Mavericks (1-0) to an 8-5 victory over the Okotoks Dawgs (0-1) on Wednesday at Athletic Park.

Peter Hutzal had two extra-base hits for the Okotoks Dawgs. He homered in the first inning and doubled in the eighth inning.

The Medicine Hat Mavericks had no answer for Garrett Ciuk, who kept runners off the basepaths in his appearance. The Medicine Hat Mavericks managed just one hit off of the the Okotoks Dawgs' pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out one during his five innings of work.

Matt Dallas got the win, running his season record to 1-0. He allowed one run over 1 1/3 innings. He struck out one, walked one and surrendered two hits.

Bo Lewington (0-1) took the loss for the Okotoks Dawgs. He lasted just zero innings, walked none, struck out none, and allowed five runs.
