The Piedmont Pride (19-6) and the Team Charlotte (6-19) both had scoring chances on Saturday, but it was the Piedmont Pride that were able to capitalize on them as they pulled out a 5-3 win at Winthrop University.

Derek Horton put himself in scoring position with two extra-base hits for the Piedmont Pride. He doubled in the first innings and homered in the second inning.

Daniel Sweeney got the win, running his season record to 2-2. He allowed two runs over 4 2/3 innings. Sweeney struck out four, walked one and gave up six hits.

Matthew Reitz ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with his second loss of the year. He lasted just five innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed four runs.
